In "The Berenstain Bears: God Loves You!" a new school year has begun and Sister Bear decides to try out for the school show. Brother decides that he wants to be a member of the basketball team. They both complete tryouts and are excited about their prospects until they see the list of the bears that made the team. They are both on the respective lists but as Stage Manager and Team Manager. They are quite disappointed but there is a lesson to be learned.
Max: "I liked when Brother was playing basketball and when Sister was singing. I didn't like when they didn't get to do what they wanted to though. I liked the part about the rainbow at the end. They said God loves us even when we do naughty things sometimes. We learned that at school too!"
There is a wonderful lesson taught in "The Berenstain Bears: God Loves You!." The overall story was a good one and we enjoyed the familiar illustrations. However, the book seemed too wordy and it was hard to keep my child (and myself) interested in the story at times. Shortening some of the passages and more closely mimicking the writing style in the original Berenstain Bears books would improve this book greatly.

Very nice story. It's a little wordy for the younger ones, but still interesting.
Brother and Sister are disappointed because they don't make the basketball team and the school play, respectively. (They're chosen to be the team and stage managers instead.) They feel very disappointed and unappreciated. Mama, with some clumsy "help" from Papa, lol, is able to explain that God loves us no matter what, and that Brother's and Sister's teachers must have a lot of confidence in the cubs, to have given them jobs that require so much responsibility. It's a story almost everyone can relate to, and it would encourage youngsters (or their parents) who are in similar situations.
A Beautiful Story Oct 3, 2008
A very nice story reassuring children that God loves them even when they may feel that they don't really deserve it. A useful book for early childhood Christian education.
